The Georgia Tech Dept of Computin's manual system of inventorying assets required 3 individuals working 6 hours a day, 5 days a week for 8 weeks, for a total of 240 hours. Georgia Tech allowed Logis-Tech, Inc. to conduct a pilot implementation of assive RFID technology in one of its computer labs. 84 computers were tagged using Alien Super-Squiggle passive RFID tags. A Symbol Technologies MC-9000G handheld reader was customized to recognize Georgia Tech room locations and Georgia Tech inventory barcodes. The readers are later connected to the server running the AIMMS II application by a handheld cradle connected to a serial or USB port. The data is then uploaded othe AIMMS II application database. The data can then be compared against Georgia Tec's database to verify inventory status.
